If you or your child/young person have a comment to share about what it is like to be a 'persistent absentee' from school you can leave an anonymous comment here and we will anonymously use some of these comments in our advocacy work.

Please share across your networks.

There are 1.6 million pupils who are persistent absentees (on less than 90% attendance). We know that many children were struggling to attend school, even before Covid and that many have struggled since.

If you are the parent of a child who has previously struggled to attend school, or is struggling now because they have become more anxious due to exam pressure, social anxiety, focus on 100% attendance or ill health (including Covid acquired illness or social emotional distress linked to or since Covid), please take part by adding your pin to this page.

Just fill in your postcode and choose the description from the drop down menu that best describes your child's difficulties regarding attendance. It doesn't have to be completely accurate, choose the closest description, and you can repeat it for up to three children.

This map is interactive. Please use the Plus '+' icon on the map to zoom in and see individual pins by local area. Each pin represents a household with at least one child struggling to overcome barriers to school attendance.
